    Company Snapshot

    • Lumentum Holdings Inc. designs and manufactures optical and photonic products for communication infrastructure, including components, modules, and subsystems for the Optical Communications segment, as well as commercial laser solutions that serve diverse industrial and scientific applications.
    • The company operates a vertically integrated business model generating revenue through two principal segments: Optical Communications, which supplies critical transmission components for data centers and telecommunications networks, and Commercial Lasers, which provides laser-based solutions for industrial and scientific markets.
    • Lumentum’s primary customers include major telecommunications carriers, data center operators, cloud service providers, and industrial manufacturers globally, with significant exposure to Asia-Pacific, Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Lumentum Holdings Inc. is a global leader in optical and photonic product manufacturing with a market capitalization of $68.4 billion and approximately 10,562 employees. The company leverages advanced photonic technologies to address the growing demand for high-speed data transmission and industrial laser applications, positioning itself at the intersection of telecommunications infrastructure and emerging industrial automation trends. With TTM revenue of $3.0 billion, Lumentum maintains a strategic focus on innovation and market expansion within the communication equipment sector.

What this transaction means for investors

Yuen sold 2,000 shares on the open market and had another 10,565 withheld by Lumentum to cover taxes when his restricted stock vested. However, even the sale ran through a 10b5-1 plan he adopted on May 19, which schedules trades months ahead so an executive can’t time them around news.

More importantly for long-term investors, Yuen heads Lumentum’s global business units, and on the company’s earnings call this month, he said near-packaged optics, which puts the laser next to the AI chip on the board instead of running copper to it, requires the “best laser technology and the best efficiencies.” He added that the firm believes that “by the late 2027-2028 timeframe … NPO will hit the market to enable optical scale-up, and this becomes an interesting opportunity for us to increase our laser business.” Meanwhile, components revenue, where those lasers sit now, rose 103% to $649.4 million in the quarter, and total revenue reached $1.01 billion, up 109% year over year. Lumentum is also converting a Greensboro fab to make the material those lasers need. First revenue from it comes in early 2028, with the ramp running through that year and into 2029.
